THERAPEUTIC BODYWORK

What is Therapeutic Bodywork?

Therapeutic Bodywork incorporates a wide range of modalities to increase healthy body awareness while addressing underlying systemic imbalances in the neuro-hormonal and muscular-skeletal systems. Each bodywork session is tailored to meet the individual's need for stress and pain management, relaxation, rehabilitation of chronic injuries and support with underlying health imbalances.

How does it work?

During a bodywork session, lotion or oil is applied directly to the skin and gentle flowing strokes are used to increase overall circulation and bring heat to sore, tired muscles. Deeper, more penetrating strokes are used to address knots, adhesions, scar tissue, and tightness. Gentle stretching and resistance exercises are added, as needed, to increase range of motion and flexibility in tight muscles and stiff joints.

The primary purpose of therapeutic bodywork is to increase blood flow and oxygenation of muscle tissue; reduce muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes; increase circulation & detoxification; stretch ligaments and tendons; balance the sympathetic & parasympathetic nervous systems to reduce anxiety & other stress related symptoms like insomnia and depression.

Types of Therapeutic Bodywork:

Our Licensed Massage Therapists combine several modalities within the same session to address the presenting health condition and maximize the effectiveness of the treatment.

SWEDISH THERAPY:  Vigorous, long, smooth strokes, kneading, and circular movements on upper layers of muscle and soft tissue are used to promote circulation towards the heart. This is a deeply relaxing and balancing technique.

DEEP TISSUE THERAPY: Slow, deep strokes and finger pressure are used on deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to release chronically tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain, postural problems, and deeper holding patterns.

NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY: Soft-tissue manipulation, targeted stretches and trigger point release helps balance the body’s central nervous system with the musculoskeletal system. Used to locate & release spasms and hyper-contraction in tissue, restore postural alignment and proper biomechanics.

HOT STONE THERAPY: River smoothed hot stones are strategically placed and massaged over the body as a relaxation tool and/or in conjunction with deeper techniques to address stubborn chronic injuries associated with lack of circulation and stagnation within soft and connective tissues.

PRE-NATAL THERAPY: Pre-natal massage targets the specific health needs of the expectant mother by relieving muscle cramps and myofascial pain, especially in the lower back, neck, hips, and legs; increase blood and lymph circulation to reduce swelling; reduce stress on weight-bearing joints; and improve outcome of labor.
